Wiki source for SubMix
Submix
While used generally in the audio world, the term "submix" PARIS has a very specific technical meaning. It refers to a discrete group of 16 tracks summed into stereo and appearing at the Master Mixer.
There are three kinds of submixes: card, virtual and (as of Version 3) native.
----
Card submixes
Paris can play back any discrete submix "live" when it is associated with a specific EDS card. This allows full functionality of all mixer features.
----
Virtual Submixes
Submixes can be rendered into a pair of audio files, permitting you to switch away from that card to enable another group of 16 tracks to play "live". This "freezes" the submix; using the mixer no longer makes an audible difference.
**Problems with Virtual Submixes -**
PARIS can grow confused about its submix files; it's important to pay careful attention to your Record Path which dictates the storage for the generated files; things like similarly named submix files generated by two different versions of the same song can force PARIS to make guesses about which files to use, or prevent the creation of new ones. PARIS will then generate an "Error Recalculating Submix" message; troubleshooting/workarounds for such messages are available in the bugs/troubleshooting section.
