A Very Brief Tutorial
The PARISWiki takes advantage of an extremely cool feature called CamelCase words. You'll see that format repeated many times here - capitalization in both the beginning and the middle of the word (I'm guessing that's the camel's "hump"). For example, this page is called ParisWikiTut.
CamelCase words actually have a coded meaning to the WIKI: they tell the software they're page topics - and so it will either automatically create a hyperlink to the page with that title if it exists - or automatically and obligingly *create a new page and save it* if it doesn't.
For example, this page got created when I doubleclicked on the home page and typed the word "ParisWikiTut" and hit the "store" button. "ParisWikiTut" then showed up on the main page as a hyperlink, although with a dashed line under it. When I then clicked it, this page was automatically created and saved, and an editor screen opened up for me to type this text into. I went back later and used the little link icon in the top bar to tidy the link and make it "look purty", but the real meat of the job got done in that first action. Simple, huh?
While logging in, you probably noticed a checkbox that said "allow doubleclick editing" or the like. It's enabled by default, so if you didn't disable it intentionally then just doubleclick this page - or any page - and it will open an editing window (if that doesn't work, doublecheck to see that you're actually logged in; the clue to that is in the top right corner of every page). When the editor opens, note the toolbar that appears at the top to give you further options. This Wiki supports lots of features to visually organize your info better, like shortcuts, embedded images, the previously mentioned CamelCase, embedded images, lists, tables etc - have fun!
Make sure you browse the PageIndex list of existing pages before you create a new page, though - we don't need both, say, a ChuckDuffy and a ChuCkduffy page with different info, it'll just get to be a mess. I'll be playground monitor for a while and clean up anything that starts going sideways, but you'll get the hang of it fast.
Your work is saved automatically when you hit "store" (down there in the lower left). If you want to play around with formatting options, there's a place called the SandBox on the site that will let you experiment without messing anything up. Or you can mess around on any page and hit "Preview" in the lower left as many times as you like - and then if you don't want to save just hit "cancel".
So to be clear - hyperlinks with underlines are to existing pages. Hyperlinks with dashed underlining are pages that have yet to be created. They might just be waiting for you to create by clicking on them.
Notes on style used in this site:
Basically, I've started it off using the H2 header (used for the text "A Very Brief Tutorial" at the top of this page) for page titles, and the H4 header (used immediately above for "Notes on style used in this site:") for subsections.
Where emailed tips are cited, I italicize them; I use the highlight function (it's in the toolbar at the top of any edit window hidden away tenth from the left under "show more") to pick out the "money shot" advice in the email so people looking for a tip in a hurry on a session can find it easily.
