I purchased mike's drivers some time ago, and bought a Gigabyte GA-M720-US3 mobo (NVIDIA chipset)at the same time. So far, so good! Using an OEM NVIDIA nvs 285 16X pci-e card, and a 1x pci-e Galaxy 7300GT card (with a small riser that clears the chipset heatsink). Four monitor outputs.. cool!
(The pics were taken from my kitchen "test bench".
If you can still get this mobo, and need to run 4 EDS's GET IT!
I shoved a quad core Athlon 2 @ 3000mhz in it, and all is sweet.
Looking forward to retiring my K8NS-ultra shortly!
Long Live Paris!!
Very Happy

That looks hot. I'm planning to move my PARIS 3.0 from Mac G4 to PC soon, so I will be following your progress with interest.
Yours is the first rig I've seen with 4 monitors - I hope the graphic cards get along with each other nicely.

Hi Colin.
I can say at this stage that the two graphics cards do play nicely together. (The fact that this mobo uses the a Nvidia chipset helps, I guess). I did have to use a riser adaptor for the 1x 7300GT card, however. I purchased it from an online store here in Australia called "Darkwire". The web site is under reconstruction right now, and I can't see it anywhere on the site. It is basically just a 1x riser, approx 2/3" high. This is necessary so that the 7300 can clear the mobo chipset heatsink. I had to find a spacer of equivalent length in order to bolt the card firmly into the case.

Something like this, however, should do the trick: (with the added bonus that you could probably mount the card in any of the hardware slots available in your case):a

http://www.dhgate.com/2-lots-pci-e-1x-riser-pci-express-card -extender/p-ff8080812b2e46df012b3f56726e6908.html

Also, if the 1x card is difficult to come by, I'm pretty sure that I had, at one stage, a 16x Nvidia card working nicely with the same adaptor. (with a slot cut at one end..) Apparently only the first 1/3rd of the pins on a pci-e card are needed, albeit with a SLIGHT performance hit. (I don't do gaming on my DAW).
There is plenty of info on this on the 'net.

Here is one such page:

Anyways, I see no further problems arising, however I am yet to permanently move my other three EDS's into the new box, and do some testing. I am quite confident, however, and will keep you posted.
Cheers,
Kim

OOh, I'm excited! Everything is working smoothly so far, with none of the hoops I had to jump through before. I'm stoked!
Attached is a screen dump of my quad core, four EDS, four C-16, four monitor setup. This box is also the quietest I've ever built for Paris! (..and I didn't need a magma or similar..)

Now for the dubious task of installing all my plugins.

Colin, if you can still get this mobo, get it while you can.
I noticed you are in Australia. You may be lucky! (It was dirt cheap at MSY... $110, but that was some time ago..)
It uses DDR2 ram, so you may like to get that too, before you start paying too much of a "premium", for legacy hardware.
As far as processors are concerned, no problem. The mobo is good for a six core phenom, I believe.

Next test will be to load up a 64 track project, once I install the necessary plugins.

Fantastic news so far, Kim! No sign of IRQ conflicts as yet, I take it? The 64 track project and plug-ins will smoke any little gremlins out. Looking forward to seeing PARIS carving it up on a really fast quad-core AMD.

Hey Colin.
I've tracked down possibly the last source of these mobos.
Are you in melbourne, per chance?
Kim

G'day Kim, I'm in Darwin, N.T. I buy lots of tech stuff, parts and musical gear by mail order and on-line shopping though. Can you give me the contacts for the vendor? Maybe I can follow it up from here.

Hi Colin.
I tried PM'ing you but you have disabled PM'ing. Smile
If you can PM me your email address, we can talk about it, and not clog up this forum. It's a bit complicated, but the supplier doesn't do mail-order, but I *think* I have secured the very last two of these mobos in the country. (courtesy of a friend in Victoria). (One is a spare for myself, in case of power surge etc, and the other, well, I may keep as another spare because I have a second PC running a 32 channel Frontier Dakota system,(also PCI-based) which is sync'd to my Paris box, via ADAT).
Also, How many EDS cards do you intend to use?
What I'm suggesting is: If you are migrating to PC land, and IF you REALLY need four PCI slots, (four EDS cards), and IF you can prove you have paid for both the Paris 3 software, AND Mike's multicore drivers, (and IF I get these mobos - still unknown), I could make an image of the raw install that I've created, and send it to you on DVD-ROM. Then all you would have to do is to re-jig the drivers for your four-monitor setup, if they differ from mine).
I'm running four 22" LG widescreen monitors, and all is well.
Cheers,
Kim
